Well again this Fall so some new name from the past showing up along with charter and newer attendees. The Bunny Hutch Crew of Rich Hasper and Sam Brewer arrived in the dark early on Thursday night along with Ghanman(Randy Ghann) and Mr Grand Canyon and sometime tree expert Don Bertolette, after stopping at Robbs for a couple of wets. Not to be out done, Bob Boschee came out of the dark of night Thursday to find the party and remembrances began early. Friday afternoon all us adjourned to Robbs for early celebration where Jon Roney found us out in that beautiful Eldorado National Forest after flying into Sacramento from Seattle, renting a car and using my directions to get to Robbs in time for a round of wets. As the night progressed John Watt, Milt Iskra, Steve Quiggle, George Boring, Steve Richter, Don Wise, Gene Rodgers, Richie Howe(Tournament Director) showed their faces with the BS lasting into the wee hours when the group dispersed to sleeping accommodation in the cabin, in some of the vehicles including motor homes and several tents in Airport Flats.
Saturday Morning everyone was bright eyed and bushy tailed , and ready for a little outdoors action so we loaded the truck with many and went up creek to Gerle Meadow for a little fishin and more BS. Everyone started out serious in their fishing, but old Boring George brought home the only fish, catching two nice German Browns. Boschee and Jon Roney took the opportunity to hike up 3 miles to Wentworth Springs and return while the rest of us tried our hands at the local trout. I did manage to initiate my new waders and spent a productive two hours fly fishing, but without the luck of George. George threw a bit of a scare into the group when we all returned to the truck for the return with Boring George nowhere to be found. So after several search efforts both in the truck and then a systematic search of the creek on both sides, George finally appeared confiding that he was intent on his fishin with fish in his creel. Of course he confessed he couldn't hear the yelling and horn honking, but in any case, we were glad young George was not lost.
All afternoon into the evening, the Bunny Hutch Commanders spent the day working on all the fixins for the now standard Saturday evening LAGNAF Feed made now famous by Rich Hasper and Sam Brewer. This year again the feed was something else. You have never seen so much BBQ Tri-Tip, Chicken, Corn, Beans, Salad you name it not to mention all the delightful adult beverages to accompany this meal. Once everyone was feed, we adjourned to the main cabin for the annual slide show of pictures dug out of the archives of attendees, followed by our usual business meeting and discussion of other significant issues of interest to this group.
Sunday morning found everyone again showing their best as Richie Howe and Milt Iskra had again outdone themselves settling up the special Third Annual Gerle Creek Open(special Par 36, nine hole course), complete with proper cups, flags and one of Ritchie's' grand John Deere Golf Carts to support all these old codgers on this ruff, but beautiful course. After some formal complaints about the course tournament directors early play the day before with formal rulings from the on site Handicap Chairman, Steve Richter, Tournament play came off without a hitch. Of course, the winners score was a bit suspect, but everyone cheered just the same.
